1. ABOUT COMPETITIONS
Competitions are a major part of Music Playground. They drive the site forward and inspires musicians to reflect and constructively think about music and music-creation. Competitions are a great tool for guiding the less experienced artists to better themselves and grow. We have several amazing and dedicated reviewers, that spend hours writing constructive criticism on every submitted track.
Any and everyone can join a competition. Send in a track of you punching a red herring or shaking an egg, and you will probably still get a decent review and reflective opinion. We do not prefer any genres, but are generally leaning towards the electronic side, since many of us are "bedroom" producers/artists, but we love surprises, so don't hold back with that opera or muzak.
2. HOW DO I JOIN A COMPETITION?
To join a competition, you need to be a registered member of the forum.
You can register here.
After registering, you can join a competition, by clicking the Join Competition link in the competition box, located at the top of the forum.
The items in bold are required for participation.

Once you have filled in the required information, press "Add entry" to submit, and wait for your track to upload.
If you want to change your entry, or revise your information, press the "Change your entry" link.
3. WHAT IS THE QUALIFICATION ROUND?
The competitions at Music-Playground are divided into two voting rounds: the qualification round and the final round. The final round consists of 4 groups: Gold, Silver, Bronze and Medal.
The qualification round determines which group each artist qualifies for in the final round. Each group winner qualifies for the Gold group, each group runner-up for the Silver group, 3rd places for Bronze group and the rest goes into the Medal group.
4. WHAT ARE TROPHIES?
Trophies are awarded on special occurrences and achievements. There are almost a hundred different trophies, and they are divided into 6 types: Medal, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Star.
Some trophies are very easy to get, while others are very, very hard. Some trophies will only be awarded if you use the competition controls, and some trophies are out of your hands altogether.
When you are awarded a trophy, a blinking message will alert you at the top of the forum. Through that link, you can also see how you stack up against other artists on the trophy leader board.
5. HOW DO I VOTE?
During a competition you need to vote 2 times: in the qualification round and in the final round. When the rounds starts, a 'Cast Vote' link will appear at the top of the forum.
In both the qualification and final round you pick your top 4 from each group.
Additionally in the final round you nominate artists for a Special Mention.
6. WHAT ARE SPECIAL MENTIONS?
Sometimes entrants excels in a certain category. It could be awesome drum composition, a fantastic vocal performance or a vast sound design. For these artists there is a special nomination type called Special Mentions. There are currently 5 categorical Special Mentions: Drums, Production, Sound Design, Performance, Arrangement.
Furthermore there are two special awards: Coal Award and Glory Award.
All the categories and awards are described on the voting page, and in the competition rules.
7. WHAT ARE EXTRA AND RATING POINTS?
Extra points and rating points are used on score ties between entrants in the same group. The extra points are based on the amount of voting slots used by each entrant, and the rating points are mainly based on the number of reviews and general review rating. Also added, are the number of featured artist tracks the entrant has rated.
If score, extra points and rating points are equal, the entrant with the lesser competition rank beats the entrant with the higher.
8. WHAT IS THE COMPETITION RANK?
After each competition, a rank score for each entrant is calculated. The rank score is based on points, extra points, rating points, reviews, nominations, place in final and qualification groups and amount of nominations in special mentions. The rank score is independent of the number of artists participating.
The competition rank is used for placing entrants into groups in the qualifications round, and for ties, where entrants are equal in score, extra points and rating points.
You can see the current ranks in the rank leader board, where you also can see each artists progress from competition to competition.
9. HOW DO I WRITE AND READ REVIEWS?
During the qualification and the final round, you have the possibility to review tracks. All registered members of the forum can review tracks. In the competition box at the top of the forum, there is a Review Tracks link. Here you can post a review, for all tracks (not your own though).
If you are an entrant, each review will give you points, that will help you, if you tie in a group.
When the competition ends, the link changes to Read Reviews, and you can now see what other artists have written and rate the reviews.
When the competition is archived, you can read the reviews in the competition history section.
